Housing Council Critical Avenue To Reposition Built Environment  - Belgore 

 

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Shuaib Belgore has stated that the National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development is a forum that provides a strategic platform for aligning federal and state policies and accelerating reforms in the housing and urban development sector.

 
“The National Council Meeting remains a critical avenue for strengthening intergovernmental collaboration, reviewing sectoral policies, and evolving practical solutions that will fast-track the delivery of affordable housing and sustainable urban development across the country,” Belgore said.

 

Belgore spoke in his office in Abuja on the importance of the annual meeting of the national council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development scheduled  to hold in Ilorin, Kwara State beginning on the 19th January, 2026.

 

The housing council meeting which is the 14th in the series will be held under the theme: “ Achieving Housing Delivery and Sustainable Cities Through Effective Land Management, Urban Renewal, Promotion of Local Building Materials, and Public-Private Partnership in Nigeria.” 

 

The meeting, a statutory forum for policy harmonisation between the Federal and State Governments, will bring together relevant stakeholders in the built environment to brainstorm, deliberate, share ideas and profer solutions on policy and regulatory matters in order to move the sector forward.

 

Participants at the meeting include; States’ Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Directors in charge of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chief Executives of Housing Corporations, Surveyor-Generals, professional bodies, and other key stakeholders in the built environment sector.

 

Hosted by the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, the council meeting will deliberate on critical issues bordering on effective land management, housing delivery, urban renewal, promotion of local building materials, and the expansion of public-private partnerships as drivers of sustainable and inclusive cities.

 

The Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, the host, is expected to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the meeting, which will take place at the Kwara Innovation Hub, Ahmadu Bello Way, GRA, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Housing Minister Supports CIoD on Corporate Governance    Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has expressed support to the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) in the promotion of corporate governance and excellence.   Dangiwa made the statement when he received members of the Abuja zone of the Institute led by its Chairperson Mrs. Nwando Chukwura on a courtesy visit to his office.    " I will continue to collaborate with the Institute especially now as this is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda" he said    Speaking on the performance driven culture which is one of the focus of the Institute, the Minister stated that, housing ministry must embrace the culture in order to deliver its mandate of providing decent and affordable homes for Nigerians.   He explained that the private sector unlike the  public sector gives priority to customer- centricity, stating that the ministry of housing will collaborate with the Institute in order to improve on customer centricity    "The ministry will leverage on CIoD to boost professionalism and effective leadership in the ministry to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda" he stated    He also promised the Institute that he will get the management of his ministry to obtain membership of the institute.   Dangiwa who is a proud member of the institute said the institute align seemlessly with resourceful leadership skills which includes integrity , accountability, professionalism ,probity and customer-centricity and team work.   Speaking earlier, the Institute's Chairperson Abuja zone, Mrs. Nwando Chukwurah said that, the institute is committed to advancing the cause of good corporate governance and sound business practices, professional education, enhancing the skills of Directors, and promoting the entrenchment of good corporate governance in workplaces.   She also disclosed that the Institute conducts capacity development programmes both locally in Nigeria and internationally, exposing directors to global best practices to further enhance their skills and knowledge.    Mrs. Chukwurah said that their visit to the ministry was intended to strengthen the robust partnership and collaboration that have flourished over the years.   She urged the Directors of the ministry to register with the institute and assured them that their membership will significantly bolster an enduring partnership and collaboration in promoting corporate governance excellence in Nigeria   The Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIoD), is a professional institute  for Directors focusing on development of corporate governance in Nigeria by empowering those who are charged with governance duties to discharge those duties effectively and legally.   The institute is an assemblage of young and experienced Directors and its objective is to promote professionalism through continuous education, information sharing, network opportunities and celebrating excellence at individual and corporate levels among others.   ...

Housing Minister Inaugurates Estate Surveyors Registration Board   Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has inaugurated a 22- Member Registration Board for Estate Surveyors and Valuers of  Nigeria (ESVARBON), Tuesday, August, 27th 2024.   Speaking at the inauguration, Dangiwa stated that the board is an essential organ charged with the responsibility of overseeing the profession of Estate Surveying and Valuation in Nigeria, adding that having the board is necessary in order to actualize the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.   He also explained that, Surveyors and Valuers have great impact on the delivery of decent and affordable housing in Nigeria due to their professional expertise. " They help in structuring urban development and minimize cost" he added.    Accordingly, the Minister disclosed that,  the ministry is ready to work closely with the board as they play significant role in preventing building collapse which is one of the priorities of the ministry.   The Minister urged the newly inaugurated board members to focus on its mandates of determining who qualifies as estate surveyors and valuers, maintain high standards, regulate  and control the practice of the profession.   Responding, the Chairman of the Board,  ESV Dosu Fatokun assured the minister of their collective efforts to lead to a vibrant and thriving real estate sector in Nigeria.  " The board will ensure professionalism, integrity and transparency in discharging it's mandate" he said    ESV Fatokun also assured the minister of the board's continuous role of regulating and controlling the practice of estate surveying and valuation, providing expert advice to the government and stakeholders on issues relating to  real estate sector and supporting infrastructure development. ...
